When did you get started as a barista and how?
My very first experience as a barista was in Greensboro NC at a small shop called Carolina Coffee & Tea. One of my music professors was friends with the owner and recommended me for the job.
Who is your mentor in brewing?
Jason Dominy introduced me to the world of brewing while we both lived in Charlotte NC. We took part in many "Arabica Labrica" events and had hours of brewing fun.
ON BREWING
First piece of brewing equipment?
My first piece of brewing equipment was when I was in middle school - I got a Mr. Coffee home espresso machine - I thought it was so cool! My method of choice at home now is AeroPress.
What is your favorite shift and why?
I like early morning since that is when most of the regulars come in. I've not worked a bar shift in quite a while now though - I have to say I miss it.
What in-season single origin coffee are you currently enjoying?
I just had the Kenya Nyeri from Coffee Ambassadors while I was in Chicago for CoffeeFest. I think it got better each day I brewed it. Opening the bag was like opening a bag of my favorite candy!
What is your current favorite recipe to brew on a trifecta?
The Kenya Nyeri from Coffee Ambassadors is pretty kicking!
